Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op is making excellent progress in these early stages of our fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) project as we move toward bringing world-class high-speed internet to our members in the communities we serve. We’re pleased to announce an important step in our FTTH project.

PIE&G has engaged Davey Resource Group (DRG) to perform a field inventory of all equipment on its existing utility poles throughout the co-op’s service area.  DRG crews will start visually inspecting poles starting in the following areas: Onaway, Black Lake, Canada Creek, Tower, Fingerboard and Mullet Lake areas beginning on Monday, May 17.  You may see some of DRG’s crews and trucks in your neighborhoods in the coming weeks. They may be working near or on your property to conduct the pole-by-pole surveys to capture data about the equipment that is currently affixed to the poles.

The pole inventory data will provide details for precise digital mapping of PIE&G’s electric distribution system which is necessary for the next stage of the project – “Make Ready Engineering” (MRE).  DRG field engineers will proceed with MRE to determine preparations that are needed to existing power poles to accommodate the fiber installation.

You can find more information and learn about these stages of the project in our Fiber FAQs online at www.pieg.com/fiber.  We invite you to visit the site and our Facebook page regularly as we are committed to keeping you updated as new information is available as we move forward with this exciting project.
