PIE&G Connect Celebrates 2-Year Mark of Fiber Construction; Reaches Milestone with 2000th Member Connection
Onaway, MI – PIE&G Connect, powered by Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op, is celebrating two significant member connection milestones. The internet service provider has now connected 2,000 subscribers in its ongoing mission to bring high-speed connectivity to its members throughout rural Northern Michigan and marked the end of its second year of fiber construction.
PIE&G Connect has been at the forefront of the fiber internet revolution in Northern Michigan, bridging the digital divide by offering reliable and lightning-fast internet connections to previously underserved areas. PIE&G Connect’s commitment to delivering top-notch services, coupled with a dedication to customer satisfaction, has earned the provider a strong reputation among residents and businesses alike.
“Reaching the 2,000-subscriber mark in the two years since beginning construction is a testament to the hard work and determination of the entire team at Presque Isle,” said Tom Sobeck, CEO of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op. “We want to thank our members for their continued trust as we connect more and more subscribers to fiber-fast internet.”
To celebrate the occasion, employees of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-Op and PIE&G Connect presented the 2,000th subscriber, Jonathan, and Sarah Kennedy, with an Amazon Echo Show.
Sarah Kennedy, a Graphic Designer, stated that to work from home, she had to use another Internet provider’s service, and it would take her approximately 40 minutes to upload and submit her projects online. Her first upload with PIE&G Connect took almost a minute. It was so fast she wasn’t even sure her file had uploaded and had to double-check; she was so amazed.
So far, PIE&G Connect has built 1,036 miles of fiber in areas of Onaway, Canada Creek, Black Lake, Tower, Fingerboard, and Mullet Lake. In September, PIE&G Connect moved into phase 2 of its project with plans to open zones in Cheboygan, Hammond Bay, Millersburg, Hawks, and Hagensville areas throughout the coming months.
“The impact of high-speed internet cannot be overstated. Access to fiber internet has transformed the way our communities function, opening up doors to educational resources, telecommuting opportunities, telemedicine, and countless other possibilities,” says Sobeck.
“PIE&G Connect’s unwavering efforts in expanding its network have made these opportunities a reality for thousands of Presque Isle members.”
The full fiber project is expected to take approximately four years and encompass 3,220 miles of fiber within the communities the electric co-op serves.
