Severe thunderstorms and strong winds passing through northern Michigan Wednesday evening brought significant tree and power line damage, causing approximately 8,172 Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) members to lose power. Line crews responded to a number of 911 calls reporting trees on lines and downed lines that night, and have been working around the clock since on tree removals, repairs and restorations.

PIE&G has now re-established service to all but 185 member accounts so far. Crews found ten broken poles. Six have been repaired but some may need to be replaced, which is a longer repair process.

PIE&G brought in help from outside contractors, due to the widespread damage and extensive repairs needed. PIE&G anticipates that most repairs should be completed by tonight.

Members should contact PIE&G immediately at (800) 423-6634 to report their power outage or any downed power lines. Residents are cautioned to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed wires and to report them immediately to PIE&G, 911 or local law enforcement.
