Presque Isle Electric & Gas nearing full restoration of power to Northern Michigan

ONAWAY, Mich. – Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-Op (PIE&G) crews continue making significant progress in restoring power to Northern Michigan following the devastating ice storm that caused unprecedented damage across the region.

As of Sunday, April 13:

Over 85% of PIE&G members now have power (29,661 members restored so far)
Replaced more than 1,400 broken poles
Coordinated 788 vehicles and equipment
Managed 409 crews and 1,430 personnel in the field to restore power

PIE&G remains on track with its original timeline for restoration, with exceptions in areas where individual service lines sustained damage and the Lewiston area, which experienced especially extensive destruction. Repairs in Lewiston are expected to take an additional 2-3 days due to the severity and complexity of the required work.

Today, CEO Allan Berg and Director of Electric Operations Eric Leach visited crews working in Lewiston. “Driving just one mile, every single pole was either broken or knocked down,” said Berg. “The severity of the damage in Lewiston underscores the monumental task our crews face, and we’re incredibly proud of their commitment and resilience.”

Crews are continuing their restoration efforts around the clock. Residents may notice crews working in their neighborhoods overnight as PIE&G maintains its dedication to safely restoring power to every affected member as quickly as possible.
