Presque Isle Electric & Gas Has Restored Power To Over 62% Of Members

Onaway, MI – April 5, 2025 –Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) continues to make significant progress in its ice storm recovery efforts, with 62% of members now restored.

“We have made incredible strides over the past 24 hours,” said Allan Berg, PIE&G CEO. “We’ve been able to turn the lights back on for many of our members today, and that’s a good feeling for the hundreds of field personnel and office staff who have been working tirelessly toward restoration since this storm hit last weekend. Our focus remains on achieving full restoration for our entire membership as soon as safely possible, and we won’t rest until we make that happen.”

Additional crews from across the country continue to arrive every day to aid in the historic storm recovery efforts, with 251 crews and over 940 personnel currently in the field. A base camp of additional contract support and volunteers has also been set up in Gaylord to assist in the historic power restoration efforts across the northern Michigan region.

“The magnitude of this storm is unprecedented, and people from around the country are seeing the incredible severity of damage and coming to offer whatever assistance they can,” said Berg. “We are so appreciative of the generous contributions of our community members, our mutual aid crews, our local and state agencies, and everyone who has stepped in to help.”

Safety Reminder: Always treat downed lines as energized and stay at least 25 feet away. Do not attempt to remove trees or debris from lines.

Generator Safety: Use generators only outdoors in well-ventilated areas. Be sure they are connected properly to avoid dangerous backfeeding that can harm line crews. Check your owner’s manual for maintenance guidance if you’ve been running a generator for extended periods.
