Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op Focused On Restoring Power To Entire Membership
Onaway, MI – April 5, 2025 –Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) has restored power to over 53% of its 35,000 members in the wake of the recent unprecedented northern Michigan ice storm, a significant achievement considering virtually all members were out of power at the peak of the event.
“We are making tangible strides every hour of every day toward restoring power to our entire membership,” said Allan Berg, PIE&G CEO. “Hitting 50% was a major achievement for our team, given the massive level of destruction caused by this storm. We’ve restored power to over 18,000 members and over 500 miles of line this week, and we expect that steady progress to continue this weekend.”
Berg says PIE&G’s current aim is to restore power to a substantial portion of its service territory by Monday night. To help achieve that, additional crews from across the United States and Canada are being brought in daily, with the current count of crews in the field at 237.
“That’s 830 personnel in the field working together to bring the power back on for PIE&G members,” said Berg. “We’re taking extraordinary measures because this isn’t just a loss of electricity. This isn’t just another storm restoral effort. This is an event that impacts the safety, security, and welfare of our entire community, and too many northern Michigan families remain without power. We are working around the clock to turn the lights back on for our all members, and we will not rest until every single member has had power restored.”
The safety of the public and crews remains PIE&G’s top priority throughout the storm restoration efforts. The cooperative urges members to continue to remain vigilant and stay away from any downed lines, and to practice proper generator safety.
