Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op Continues To Make Great Strides In Power Restoration

Onaway, MI – April 4, 2025 – Over 45% of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) members can turn their lights on tonight, thanks to the efforts of 169 crews working tirelessly to restore power in the wake of the historic ice storm that hit northern Michigan last weekend. PIE&G, with the support of 600 personnel from across the United States and Canada, turned the power back on for 4,527 members today, bringing the total households restored up to 17,084.

“Our crews restored nearly 80 miles of line today, which is just remarkable,” said Allan Berg, PIE&G CEO. “We are working according to a strategic restoration plan that has our personnel currently working hard to make repairs in every single area of our nine-county service territory. They are making incredible progress across every hour of every day, and our members are really beginning to see the results.”

That includes work to replace an unprecedented 463 broken poles caused by the ice storm. Additional crews and support from the National Guard and other local and state agencies continue to arrive every day to help with system repairs, and PIE&G remains committed to bringing power back to every home and business as quickly and safely as possible.

“We will not rest until we have turned the lights back on for every single PIE&G household,” said Berg. “Many of our employees, myself included, are still out of power too, and we appreciate the terrible devastation this storm has caused for our members and our local communities. It’s all hands on deck 24/7 until we get 100% power restored, and we are committed to continuing to communicate our progress throughout the remainder of this historic event.”

Safety remains the top priority for PIE&G throughout this storm aftermath. Members and the public are encouraged to stay vigilant and stay far away from any downed power lines, and report them to authorities.
