Onaway, Michigan (October 8, 2024) – Hurricane Helene landed in Perry, Florida, on September 26, 2024, leaving millions across Southeastern states without power for days. Florida now braces for Hurricane Milton, predicting even more power outages. Electric cooperatives nationwide have answered the call to action, sending mutual aid crews south to restore power in the wake of the hurricane damage.
Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op linemen joined other co-op linemen from Michigan who packed up and headed south Monday and Tuesday to meet with other co-op relief personnel. The Michigan team includes PIE&G, Wolverine, Midwest, Great Lakes Energy, Cherryland Electric, and HomeWorks.
“All of us in the utility industry are committed to supporting one another during weather emergencies, and this is no exception. We are grateful that our linemen can join forces with other Michigan co-ops to provide mutual aid during this critical time. We look forward to their safe return and will keep all those impacted by these historic hurricanes in our thoughts,” said Allan Berg, President and CEO of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op.
