Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op has restored all but 178 services as of this morning. Most are in Cheboygan County, and the rest are individual services located across PIE&G’s service territory. The Co-op experienced catastrophic level outages after a series of severe thunderstorms swept through northern Michigan on Saturday afternoon and early Sunday. Crews identified 28 broken poles. Fifteen have already been repaired or replaced and there are thirteen more scheduled for repairs.
PIE&G expects that most services will be restored by this evening. Crews were enroute by ferry early this morning to Bois Blanc Island to work on restorations there.
PIE&G extends its thanks to affected members for their patience, and to employees, mutual aid crews and contractors, who have been working long hours in the office and in the field to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. PIE&G line crews continue working with Wolverine Power, Traverse City Light and Power, and HomeWorks TriCounty crews on outages and broken poles.
Members should contact PIE&G at (800) 423-6634 to report power outages and any downed power lines. Everyone is cautioned to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed wires and to report them immediately to PIE&G, 911 or a local law enforcement agency.
