We have received numerous questions regarding the crews and the debris cleanup process following the unprecedented ice storm. Many steps and multiple teams across our service area are actively working to clean up debris, fallen trees, and dangerous leaning trees. The entire cleanup process is expected to extend throughout the summer and into early fall. Below is a summary of the crews and the steps involved in this process:
- A specific crew is assigned to pick up and remove wires, transformers, broken poles, and similar items and dispose of them properly.
- A second crew is responsible for documenting and clearing any tree obstructions in our electric right-of-way. They will also move the material to a designated area for collection.
- A third crew is tasked with cutting down any trees leaning toward or threatening to fall on our electric infrastructure, posing a risk to our infrastructure and employees in the right-of-way. These trees will be relocated to a site where they can be picked up.
- The final step involves a tree debris collection crew, which will gather the piles of trees and limbs and transport them to a staging area for disposal.
Given the complexity of the steps involved in inventorying, documenting, and properly collecting and disposing of the trees and debris, additional crews are deployed to monitor each stage of this process.
