Powerful gale-force winds across the region today caused widespread power outages for thousands of Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) members. Wolverine Power Cooperative experienced outages on their transmission lines that knocked out two substations serving PIE&G members in Cheboygan County. Wolverine was able to make their repairs this afternoon and PIE&G crews have restored all but approximately 659 outages this evening. The remaining outages are scattered throughout its service area.
Repairs will continue into tomorrow and members who are currently without power should make preparations to be without power overnight. Winds have calmed down tonight but may ramp up again tomorrow causing additional outages. PIE&G crews will continue working tonight.
PIE&G members should contact PIE&G immediately at (800) 423-6634 to report their power outage or any downed power lines. Residents are cautioned to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed wires and to report them immediately to PIE&G or a local law enforcement agency (911).
