Sustained gale force winds swept through the region today causing widespread power outages for Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) members across northeast Michigan. Approximately 4,623 outages were predicted today, and crews have repaired and restored 3,550 services so far tonight. An estimated 1,074 services remain without power, but PIE&G standby crews will continue working through the night. Most of the wind-related outages occurred in Montmorency and Presque Isle Counties.
PIE&G anticipates that repairs will continue into tomorrow and that members who are currently without service should prepare to be without power overnight. The winds are expected to continue overnight and, although the winds will eventually diminish later tomorrow, additional new outages are likely. Delays in repair times are also expected for replacement of at least three broken poles and tree removals from lines.
PIE&G members should contact PIE&G immediately at (800) 423-6634 to report their power outage or any downed power lines. Residents are cautioned to stay at least 25 feet away from any downed wires and to report them immediately to PIE&G or a local law enforcement agency.
