Gale Force Winds Cause Catastrophic Power Outages Across Northern MI

Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op began receiving reports of wind-related power outages this morning. As the day progressed, the winds persisted and the number of outages increased significantly.  Crews have been working all day and will continue to work tonight and into the weekend due to the widespread wind and tree damage.  The Mackinaw Bridge was closed today due to the high winds.

This afternoon, PIE&G estimates that a total of around 9,100 services are affected throughout its entire service territory in the northeastern tip of the mitt.  Outside assistance is being provided by Wolverine Power and contract tree cutting services. Restorations are anticipated to continue through the weekend due to the number of downed trees and broken poles. Members should be prepared to be without power for several days.

Please contact PIE&G at 1 (800) 423-6634 to report all power outages or downed power lines. Everyone should use extreme caution and stay away from downed lines until crews can secure the area.
