Clean Energy

On October 6, 2008, Public Act 295 was signed into Michigan law. This Act, known as the Clean, Renewable and Efficient Energy Act, established a Renewable Energy Standard for our state. The Renewable Energy Standard (RES) requires Michigan electric providers to achieve a retail supply portfolio that includes at least ten percent (10 %) renewable energy by 2015. Presque Isle Electric & Gas Co-op (PIE&G) through its wholesale power supplier, Wolverine Power Cooperative, is complying with this requirement.

A portion of PIE&G’s renewable energy is produced by the Harvest Wind Farm – for more information click on this link:

In December, 2014, Wolverine Power Cooperative announced it is also developing the Alpine Power Plant in northern Michigan to meets its member’s needs, including PIEG. As a peaking power plant using natural gas, the Alpine Power Plant will have minimal environmental impact.
